Get to know us Our events »The Fire Prevention Foundation of Charlotte(FPFC) is a non-profit organization that provides assistance and support to the members of The Charlotte Fire Department, their families, Mecklenburg County and the surrounding community in need.
We do this by hosting charitable events and selling merchandise to the public to raise funds for the foundation. Some of our events include The Fire Prevention Foundation of Charlotte Golf Classic and participation in The Southern Christmas Show.
The Fire Prevention Foundation of Charlotte Golf Classic will be held on June 3rd 2011 at The Golf Club at Ballantyne. This will be our 4th annual golf tournament and we hope that it will be as or more successful than previous years.
We are very fortunate to be offered a booth at The Park (formally the Merchandise Mart) for The Southern Christmas Show were we showcase fire department equipment and share knowledge , safety tips and information with the public. Merchandise is also sold to the public to raise funds for the foundation.
Every year, during the Christmas holiday, we adopt a family that has been burned out of their home or have suffered a tragic event or loss in their lives. When the family settles into their temporary or permanent living spaces, we make sure the family is provided with the necessities that have been lost in the tragedy. Furniture, cookware, linens and clothing are among the items we provide as well as Christmas gifts for the kids.
This organization officially started in 2009, but was conceived in 2007 with our first event, The Michael Armstrong Golf Classic. This event was an effort to aid our friend and co-worker who suffered with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In 2004 our friend and co-worker Michael Armstrong was afflicted with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Michael worked for the Charlotte Fire Department as a fire inspector with the Fire Prevention Bureau. He loved his job very much and showed it by learning what he could about the job and earning his BS in Fire Science from UNCC and a MBA from Pfeiffer University. Michael was an instructor for the department where he taught essential code and life safety classes to firefighters and fire inspectors. Michael was also a New Hope Volunteer Firefighter. Unfortunately, Michael succumbed to the disease in early July of 2009. We miss him very much, but his memory and contributions will live on forever.
Thank you so much for your time.
